Why does Ziruma use teak wood?

Teak wood is a naturally sturdy material that has built in defenses against bacteria and fungi. It also has a high resistance to water decay making it perfect for kitchenware. Unlike other woods used for kitchenware, **teak has unique elements called tectoquinones. They give the wood superior antibacterial and antifungal defenses. At Ziruma, we only use 25 year teak wood. Why? Only Mature Teak has a high silica and rubber content, which are natural water repellents that prevent decay. 100% Heartwood is used for all our creations.**
