How does the vacuum valve work?

Each lid has a valve you can use with our electric vacuum pump to draw out the air and help food stay fresh longer. The containers aren't designed to be industrial-grade airtight: they slowly lose vacuum over a few days, which is about how long fresh food is usually kept. If one container loses air much faster than the others with the valve closed, write to help@ziruma.com with your order number. The valve is a standard 1-inch size. We haven't tested third-party pumps, so we can't guarantee they'll work with our lids. Tip: make sure the silicone seal on the lid sits facing down; otherwise the pump can't draw out the air.

Can I buy spare lids or valves?

We're sorry — spare lids and silicone valves are currently out of stock with no restock date, and we can't reserve units. If you write to us at help@ziruma.com, we'll gladly notify you as soon as new stock arrives.

How do I care for glass containers?

Glass containers and lids are dishwasher safe; the top rack is best for the lids and seals. They go safely from the freezer to the microwave or oven — as with any glass, just avoid extreme shocks like placing a hot container on a cold, wet surface. Don't nest containers inside each other, since glass-on-glass contact can chip the rims.
