Yes, they're ready to use. Our wooden utensils come lightly treated with a food-grade, cotton-based water lacquer and an organic beeswax blend beneath the surface, so there's nothing to season before you start.
Before the first use
- Hand wash with warm water and a little mild soap.
- Dry them right away with a towel. Don't leave them soaking.
- Recommended: once they're completely dry, rub a thin coat of a natural, petroleum-free wood conditioner, like a beeswax blend with plant oils, over the whole utensil, let it soak in, then buff off any excess. The light lacquer is meant to wash off over time, and regular conditioning keeps the wood protected. If your set came with a wax sample, you can use it for this. Skip mineral oil, including products sold as "food-grade mineral oil": it's a petroleum by-product.
How often after that?
Every three to four weeks if you cook with them often, or whenever the wood looks pale, dry or feels rough.
